Anouk Schmitt - That's how she rolls

11/02/2016

Togetherness on eye level – that is what Anouk Schmitt likes to advocate for. People should act with each other exactly this way, no matter what sex, religion or disability they have. She tells us on REHACARE.com, why she wants to be a child again and what makes her partner so special.

When did you last laugh heartily and what about?

Anouk Schmitt:
Just this morning, when my dog Frida carried an old sock into the bed.

What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?

Anouk Schmitt: To travel to Iceland. But it did not work yet mostly because of money.

Which person has influenced you most?

Anouk Schmitt: Family and friends. But especially my partner. I met him when I was already using my wheelchair and for him my disability is just a part of me, just like my blonde hair. The first person who did not even want to know what "is wrong" with me.

You have the chance to become the German Federal Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?

Anouk Schmitt: I would especially commit myself for a good Federal Participation Law and to do everything to change people’s mind. Especially this is because people with disability get impaired.

Your life is made into a film: Who would represent you?

Anouk Schmitt:
Either Hannelore Elsner or Senta Berger. Because who else could be better, if not me, as a character actress?

I would like to be ...

Anouk Schmitt: A child again. They see the world much more relaxed.

Which questions would you like answered the most?

Anouk Schmitt: I think, it is good that we do not have an answer to every question. Life would be too boring then.

What I finally want to say...

Anouk Schmitt: J’ai décidé d’être heureux, parce que c’est bon pour la santé. (Voltaire) (Because it is wholesome for health, I decided to be happy.)
