Multifit LegLifter Mk3: New features offer more help for disabled
05/10/2009Multifit Hospital Supplies Ltd
This innovative device is designed to assist elderly and disabled people experiencing difficulty in lifting their legs into a prone position onto a bed. This is a task most of us take for granted, yet one which can be an agonising challenge for many with advanced age and infirmity.
The launch of this helpful bedside appliance at REHACARE in 2008 brought worldwide feedback to answer a wider range of therapist and caregiver needs.
Innovative design
The LegLifter is an electronically motivated device which, amongst its many benefits, incorporates silent, safe and simple operation. It is lightweight for portability - with compact proportions for easy transporting, even in a small vehicle. It can be fitted within minutes to either side of domestic beds and many profiling-bed designs without tools.
The LegLifter's sleek profile and ergonomically contoured proportions conceal considerable robustness. It can lift substantial weights in a gentle, natural movement which places a person¹s legs in a comfortable prone position on the bed, with little or no help from caregivers.
Exposure at REHACARE 2008 led to interested responses from occupational therapists and distributors concerning the provision of additional options to cater for a wider range of needs. Designer/engineer Wayne Manson welcomed the prospect of refining his concepts to address these new challenges. "In effective design solutions, feedback is as important as function and form." he says. "Multifit LegLifter Mk3 reflects that feedback in a greater range of features to assist both patient and caregiver."
Expanded options for heavier demands
Through advice and feedback from Theraposture Ltd, Multifit's UK distributor, the LegLifter Mk3 features now include a wider leg-rest option for those with oedemic or overweight conditions, advanced operational functions which rely less on a patient¹s balancing ability, streamlined stabiliser fittings and enhanced ergonomics.
Occupational therapists have welcomed both the initial launch and the most recent developments. Even trained specialists will admit that physically lifting the legs of a patient onto a bed surface involves careful body posturing as well as considerable strength and co-ordination. This is particularly true with overweight patients or those with little or no muscle power. Non-professional caregivers of older folk have even greater difficulty, as they are often family members of similar age and may have disabilities of their own.
The Age of the Aging
In rapidly aging populations, the gap between the number of elderly and infirm and the number of available caregivers will widen proportionally. To overcome this disparity, innovative help such as that offered by the Multifit LegLifter Mk3 is equally certain to become the viable solution for the future. Its design and development is driven by a simple objective - providing easier management for healthcare professionals and increased independence for our elderly and disabled with safe, helpful, cost-effective solutions.
The Multifit LegLifter Mk3 will be showing at REHACARE 2009 at stand 3F59, where you can see practical demonstrations and chat with designer Wayne Manson.
