Scope is encouraging as many people as possible to take part in a ‘Big Night Out' on Friday 1 October 2004 as part of its ‘Free2Pee' campaign, which highlights the problems disabled people have accessing toilets when enjoying a night out.

Over One-Third of British Population Cannot Name a Famous Disabled Person
Scope, the national disability organisation, has surveyed the British public to test their attitudes towards disabled people. Despite the achievements of Home Secretary David Blunkett, Professor Stephen Hawking and sportsperson Tanni Grey-Thompson, 36 per cent of those questioned in a YouGov survey could not name one single famous disabled person.

People with a learning disability get poorer healthcare than the rest of the population, in some cases leading to premature death. Mencap's Treat me right! report highlights the reasons why people with a learning disability receive poor healthcare and the changes required to improve the situation.

From October 1st, 2004, every business, large or small – from the local shop to restaurants, health clubs, dentists and supermarkets – will need to become more user-friendly to Britain's 8.6 million disabled people. The new duties under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) call for improvements including adapting premises, removing physical barriers or providing services in an alternative way.
