Advice for and by Young Carers
11/08/2006
Young carers who live in the London Borough of Hounslow get a new advice and information handbook. Kids, the national charity and service provider for all disabled children, young people and their families will be launching this handbook on Saturday 26 August.
"This handbook is specially designed to equip local young carers with the latest information about resources, services and events that are available to them in Hounslow. "We hope it will enable them to make informed choices about their lives,” says Philippa Drew, assistant regional director for Kids London.
The handbook covers a wide variety of topics that young people attending the Kids Young Carers Hounslow project have identified as being important to them. It includes advice on relationships, contact details for local counselling services and information on sexual health. Certain sections of the booklet have been written by local young carers themselves, making this a relevant and targeted resource.
"Working with the young carers on this handbook has been fantastic and rewarding. The ideas that pop from their heads are inspiring and show what remarkable young people they are. It has been an absolute pleasure", says Joanna Harris-Tench.
The booklet is being formally launched at a special event for young carers who are part of the Kids Young Carers Hounslow project, together with their families, project supporters and funders, and representatives from all the local agencies who are listed in the booklet. The event is at Hanworth Youth Centre, Hounslow Road, Hanworth, Middlesex on Saturday 26th August between 13:30 and 15:30 h.
