Independent, dynamic, being mobile - these are the keywords of the 21st century. If it is about people with handicaps, then you feel relegated for decades: A lot of barriers are on the way even today.
However, there is hope. This shows the current Topic of the Month "Mobility" on REHACARE.de.
Soon it will be a matter of the past to wheel around for ages in order to get to the next snack bar because high kerbs or stairs block the way. Four students developed a navigation system for wheelchair users. That way handicapped people should find barrier-free routes.

Imagine being blind and trying to find your way around a foreign city. Georgia Tech researchers are developing the System for Wearable Audio Navigation (SWAN). SWAN is designed to help the visually impaired, fire-fighters, soldiers and others navigate their way in unknown territory, particularly when vision is obstructed or impaired.
