Who believes in bees and flowers instead of the stork is on the right way. A little bit of sex education and you realise what the nicest thing in the world really means.
However, to disabled persons the right for their own sexuality was often obstructed. Today this changes: People with handicaps help each other in intimate questions. And mentally disabled teenagers make decisions on their own – the main thing is that they are sexually educated. More on it in our Topic of the Month April Disability and Sexuality.
Erotic experiences and physical handicap: one thing does not exclude the other. It just needs time and advice for disabled people to dare to experience sensuality. REHACARE.de talked to the social pedagogue Nadine Thomas who has been given advice in matters of disability and sexuality for three years in the association “Autonom Leben”.
- Relearning Sexuality
Mentally disabled teenagers also only think about one thing. They want to kiss, to snuggle, some already want to have sex. All the more it is important that these young people know about possible consequences. Due to this, in residential homes and schools they are sexually educated.
