From the pegleg and the first iron hand to the latest electronic spare parts for the human body it took a long time. And still researchers find new means. A glance at prostheses from the beginnings until today gives the Topic of the Month November: Prostheses.

 
 

Anyone who nowadays loses a hand due to an accident or a disease can compensate that loss, at least optically, with prosthesis. Modern prosthetic arms are the spitting image of natural arms, but unfortunately they cannot yet replace their functions.

In 2001 Cord Frederic Romberg lost his left leg in a motorbike crash. Today he runs as the first German over rough and smooth testing the first active knee prosthesis. REAHCARE.de interviewed the 35-year-old TV designer about how he became a prosthesis tester and what he thinks about the new spare part.
