Tour of Belgium for Visually Handicapped People
Tour of Belgium for Visually Handicapped People
The competition is an opportunity for many racers to train and so to be selected for the European and world championships and for the Paralympic Games.
17 teams, out of 3 countries, participated in the first Tour, organised in 1987. In the mean time interest has grown tremendously: 1999 was an all record year with 53 tandems (i.o.w. 106 racers) and 12 nationalities.
Immediately after each race the winners are honoured with gifts and flowers. As in professional cycling the leaders of the classification on time and on points wear the yellow and green shirts respectively. Each race includes 2 short dashes worth 5, 3 and 1 points for the additional classification. Results and ranking are available even in braille after each race.
