The photographs have been selected from over 800 entries to the Snap! competition organised by Mencap, the UK's leading charity for children and adults with a learning disability.
The display brings together 32 of the best photographs and stories by and about people with a learning disability chosen by a panel of judges including former Guardian picture editor Eamonn McCabe and Charlotte Cotton, V&A curator of photography.
Jo Williams, Mencap chief executive says, "Visit the V&A to see first-class photography and to have your views challenged. You will see the talents and abilities of people with a learning disability and a variety of images that portray the range of human emotions.'
Mencap hopes that seeing the photographs and reading the personal stories will help increase understanding and empathy to contribute to the ultimate aim of ending discrimination against people with a learning disability.
The Snap! display will be at the V&A from Friday 18 June to 8 August.
Mencap also launched the Treat me right! campaign for better healthcare for people with a learning disability to coincide with Learning Disability Week 2004, 21 - 27 June.

David Creighton says of his portrait of his daughter, "Sally has complex and severe medical needs. This picture captures Sally's happiness and enthusiasm for life even though she was in hospital only a few days earlier. It always raises my spirits regardless of how tired or stressed I am.”
