BGG in Germany: Free arbitration in case of dispute

Dear Sir or Madam,

preventing the discrimination of people with disabilities from being disadvantaged and ensuring their equal and accessible participation in life in society - these are the objectives of the The Federal Act on the Equalization of Disabled Persons (BGG). This should enable a self-determined lifestyle. But in practice, however, things often look quite different. For this reason, the arbitration board BGG was set up in December 2016. We asked the staff members Anne Katrin Lutz and Dr. Rica Werner who exactly under what circumstances can turn to the arbitration board.

Have a nice day,

The Federal Act on the Equalization of Disabled Persons (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz), BGG, intends to ensure that people with disabilities don’t face discrimination. However, the Act still has a long way to go before it facilitates equal participation in social life and self-determination, while it also requires content adaptation. That being said, all citizens have the chance to assert their rights. In December 2016, the BGG arbitration body was created to mediate between people with disabilities and so-called public authorities, that is to say, administrative offices and authorities at the federal level such as pension funds or the Employment Agency for example.

Fidi Baum – That's how he rolls

How we roll

Photo: Fidi Baum; Copyright: Andi Weiland
Fidi Baum discovered the love of German rap thanks to the Fantastischen Vier. Like Smudo, Thomas D and Michi Beck, Graf Fidi also has a touch of humour, which he incorporates into his lyrics. However, he did not make his musical passion to his profession. In return, he is a social pedagogue with heart and soul and is committed to the topic of inclusion. What his first official act as a federal disability commissioner would be and why Ryan Gosling would be suitable to impersonate Graf Fidi in a film, he tells at REHACARE.com.
