Anne Leichtfuß - That's how she rolls

For almost a month, the exhibition "Touchdown 21" has been opened by people with and without Down Syndrome in the Federal Art Gallery in Bonn, Germany (Bundeskunsthalle). Anne Leichtfuß has also put a lot of passion into the preliminary work. On REHACARE.com she tells us what else moves her besides her work as a translator for Easy (German) Language and why she never wants to become the Federal Commissioner for the Disabled.

When did you last laugh heartily and what about?

Anne Leichtfuß: At the last editorial meeting with my colleagues with Down Syndrome. It was about love and about the fact that some things related to it are quite embarrassing.

What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?

Anne Leichtfuß: Ever since I was little, I wanted to make a balloon ride together with my mother. Since she died a few years ago, I did not want to do it alone. But I'll do it sometime.

Which person has influenced you most?

Anne Leichtfuß: Many people have already impressed me in my life. I have learned a lot from them and have benefited from their attitude. But in first place, I would definitely name my parents. They have educated me with lots of love and at any time so that I knew they would let me make my own decisions and stand by my side, even when I was very young. And I always could have been sure about that they love me no less when I make mistakes. It was a good and valuable basis for my remaining life which carries me to this day.

You have the chance to become the German Federal Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?

Anne Leichtfuß: I do not want to become the German Federal Commissioner for the Disabled. I think, long enough people without disabilities had this "job". I am absolutely in favor of the fact that only those with disabilities should hold this office.I would find it courageous and good if a person with learning difficulties would be it in the future. If these people were really listened to and their impulses were taken seriously – that would change a lot.

Your life is made into a film: Who would represent you?

Anne Leichtfuß: I think if it was made into a movie, I would rather prefer a series than a blockbuster. I find the appropriate cast difficult to decide. I think Fritzi Haberlandt (German actress) is great. Maybe I could convince her.

Anne Leichtfuß: ... able to fly.

Which questions would you like answered the most?

Anne Leichtfuß: I would like to understand more precisely why many people in Germany have such fear of refugees who seek security and refuge in our country and why it makes the populists so popular.
