Florian Lutz – That's how he rolls

What makes a day a good day to you?

Florian Lutz: Sitting at the breakfast table with the family every morning, and coffee with the right work colleagues, of course.

Which auxiliary means or daily living aids are indispensable for you?

Florian Lutz: My car, iPad and cell phone – I can't work without these tools. The basic prerequisites for my job are communication and mobility for customers.

What would you like to see from society and your fellow people in dealing with people with disabilities? 

Florian Lutz: More acceptance and less egoism. One should never forget that people with disabilities also have a sense of humor and don't just want to be pitied.

Which assistive device would urgently need to be invented and/or improved?

Florian Lutz: The devices' designs should be revised once or twice, but that's a matter of taste, as we all know. And – since I am often asked about it – the bed gallows and its length of a well-known manufacturer should be revised.

What has been your biggest challenge so far that you have mastered – and what has helped you to do so?

Florian Lutz: My biggest challenge was when I started fresh in my company and was thrown in at the deep end after two weeks. Today, I laugh about it and feel that this was the right way to go. I had previously worked in geriatric care, so I already knew my way around a bit. When I started at the company, my current supervisor helped me a lot and also supported me a lot.

What can the assistive technology industry learn from the Corona pandemic to make life easier and/or better for people with disabilities in the future?

Florian Lutz: Listening more to what is really needed and responding to the wishes, goals and needs of the patients. Unfortunately, far too often people only think about money. It would be easier if everyone were focused on eliminating the problems.

If nothing would be impossible: Who would you like to meet one day and why?

Florian Lutz: My father, who unfortunately died prematurely in 2013. I would have liked to ask him so many more questions.

What was your best REHACARE experience?

Florian Lutz: The discussions with manufacturers, service providers and visitors. And of course the good times with colleagues and the boss.

Florian Lutz: In November 2020, I started taking videos and pictures of many restorations and uploading them regularly on Instagram.
