Since Andrea Heidrich uses a wheelchair because of a rheumatic autoimmune disease, she is dependent on the help of her assistance dog Jay. But since the Bochumer is already dog crazy anyway, also the Maltese Sandy belongs to the pack. In addition to her dogs, topics such as social justice are important to the 49-year-old as well. What else is on her mind, she tells us on REHACARE.com.
Name: Andrea Heidrich Age: 49 City: Bochum, Germany Occupation: Medical doctor off-duty Impairment: Sitting in a wheelchair due to rheumatic autoimmune disease
Andrea Heidrich: People who think they are smart, but they are not.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?
Andrea Heidrich: To create an inclusive housing project with luxury apartments for the socially disadvantaged people with disabilities at the price of a social housing. The money!
Which person has influenced you most? And why?
Andrea Heidrich: My parents - I have seldom met such strong and warm-hearted people.
Andrea Heidrich does not go anywhere without her assistance dog Jay (right) and Maltese Sandy (back). And because the 49-year old woman is so fond of her dogs, she named her Facebook account after them.
You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled in your country. What would you do first?
Andrea Heidrich: Every new building must contain affordable, accesible apartments on the ground floor. More help for the livelihoods of severely disabled people.
What is especially near and dear to you?
Andrea Heidrich: Improvement of the living conditions of severely disabled people, higher social rates, better living space...
I would like to be ...
Andrea Heidrich: actually just ME.
What else I wanted to say...
Andrea Heidrich: If you care more about your neighbors than about yourselves, the world will become a little more just.
