Lily Rice can usually be found in the skatepark, refining her WCMX techniques in her pink wheelchair. The training is paying off: Lily entered the scene in 2017, two years later she was Women's World Champion. It was only logical that her biggest challenge to date was in the halfpipe – what it was, who motivates her and how she otherwise rolls, she tells us on REHACARE.com.
Lily Rice: A good day for me is at the Skatepark in the sun with my friends.
Which auxiliary means or daily living aids are indispensable for you?
Lily Rice: I use a Vida and a Pro WCMX chair from RMA Sport. I also wear AFOs and use a walker to help me walk. What would you like to see from society and your fellow people in dealing with people with disabilities?
Lily Rice: I’d wish for everyone to be kind to each other and accept one another for who they are.
Which assistive device would urgently need to be invented and/or improved?
Lily Rice: There are many crazy inventions to help people with disabilities now! I think the main thing would be to make these lighter and easier to transport!
What has been your biggest challenge so far that you have mastered – and what has helped you to do so?
Lily Rice: I’d say my greatest challenge that I’ve mastered would be the backflip and other tricks at the Skatepark. My friends motivate me to keep trying and not give up until I land it.
What can the assistive technology industry learn from the Corona pandemic to make life easier and/or better for people with disabilities in the future?
Lily Rice: I don’t think there is much we can do in crazy times like this. Having robot physiotherapists would be cool though!
If nothing would be impossible: Who would you like to meet one day and why?
