Showing what is still possible – even with a wheelchair. This is what Nico Schinacher wants to achieve on and with his Instagram and YouTube channel. Which project the passionate hobbyist has just finished and which YouTubers actually inspire and motivate him every day, he tells us on REHACARE.com.
Nico Schinacher: Cat videos make me laugh without exception. Generally I love animals very much and with such videos I can also switch off very fast. I also spend a lot of time with my friends, where the mood is always pleasantly funny.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?
Nico Schinacher: With the motorcycle on the racetrack! At the moment I don't have the time or the money. In addition, I have not yet fully informed myself about the extent to which this is possible despite disability. But I think with the technologies today almost everything is possible despite disability.
Which person has influenced you most? And why?
Nico Schinacher: A very difficult question, because many people inspire me every day. One example is "Wheels2Walking". He has the most positive charisma and attitude, which motivates me again and again. I am also inspired by a YouTuber called "The Hacksmith": He has a YouTube channel and builds a lot of crazy things (often from movies), and it shows again and again that you can also achieve great things as an individual or "small team".
You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?
Nico Schinacher: I would oblige public transport operators to make a certain percentage of their services accessible. Especially as far as DB is concerned. Wheelchair users must be able to get on a train without having to call a telephone number every time. Apart from that, you should of course have the possibility to get on the platform first. Not everyone can take the stairs!?
What is especially near and dear to you?
Nico Schinacher: That there is generally more consideration. Concerning our fellow human beings, but above all the environment. Even if politics approaches the matter somewhat sloppily, each individual can make a contribution to making the world a better place.
Which question would you like answered the most?
Nico Schinacher: Can you freeze bread?
What else I wanted to say...
Nico Schinacher: Wheelchair doesn't mean the end is near! Of course, you have certain disadvantages due to your disability. So what? You can still be happy and have fun in life. I am a passionate hobbyist. And my last project was to build two electric motors in my active wheelchair. Now I drive without problems 40 km/h instead of walking speed (of course with protective clothing). Nobody can tell me that wheelchair driving is no fun!
