For the 20-year old Isabel Keane one way to express herself are her stylish wheel covers, created by her sister. But the covers to beautify her wheelchair are not the only reason how Ailbhe influenced her younger sister. Why Isabel looks up to her creative sister, what she wants to accomplish but has not done until now and what she wants to be known for, she tells at REHACARE.com.
Isabel Keane: Spending time with my friends and family.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?
Isabel Keane: I have always been very keen to become fluent in another language. I suppose the only reason why I haven't achieved this yet is because I haven't dedicated enough time to it however I am now studying French in university so hopefully that will allow me to achieve my dream!
Which person has influenced you most? And why?
Isabel Keane: My sister Ailbhe because she is extremely hard-working but calm at the same time and always sees the positive side of every situation.
You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled in your country. What would you do first?
Isabel Keane: I would put more of a focus on teaching children and teenagers about the different types of disabilities with the aim of reducing the stigma associated with disabilities.
Isabel Keane was the inspiration for her sister Ailbhe to start izzywheels.com and became the brand ambassador of the project. Together the sisters create stylish wheel covers, so wheelchair-users can personalize their wheels just as they like.
What is especially near and dear to you?
Isabel Keane: My wheelchair because not only does it allow me to get from place to place but it also allows me to express my individuality and personality to the world.
I would like to be ...
Isabel Keane: well known for all the right reasons!
What else I wanted to say...
Isabel Keane: 'Izzy Wheels' has enabled me to achieve my dream of being well known for all the right reasons more than anything else ever has. It allows me and other wheelchair users to show the world that disabled people want to look good just as much as anyone else!
