Laura Chrobok – That's how she rolls

Laura Chrobok can tell you a thing or two about the gruelling bureaucracy and job search for people with disabilities. And she wrote a book about it. But her book is not just about her search for employment but also about the good things in life, such as travelling. Why she wants more honest employers and what city she has dreamed of but already visited, she tells us at REHACARE.com.

What makes you laugh?

Laura Chrobok: People with the ability for self-irony but also (good) comedies/books.

What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?

Laura Chrobok: I always wanted to visit New York City, and I was there three years ago. So I can't think of an answer in a hurry.

Which person has influenced you most? And why?

Laura Chrobok: My mom. Because of her courage and bravery in the fight against cancer as well as in dealing with my disability and other challenges - and unfortunately her untimely death.

You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled in your country. What would you do first?

Laura Chrobok: That's hard to say...I am glad not to have this complicated job. But I would want to abolish the possibility for large companies to buy themselves out of their duty to hire people with disabilities.

Laura Chrobok: Inclusion should become normality. For example, it should be normal for people with disabilities to work in regular businesses, depending on their qualifications.

I would like to be ...

Laura Chrobok: ...at the west coast of the US, as I've never been there despite many trips (preferably cross country).

Which question would you like to get answered?

Laura Chrobok: Whenever an application was rejected, I would have liked to see a genuine justification instead of the standard answer. Depending on the size of the company, this may be difficult to implement though.
