Marcella Becker is a proud mother of a child with autism. She wishes that people look over the rim of their tea cup. She would like to live in a world where it is normal to be different. A world where other people give her son obviously a ladder to pick an apple like all the others. What she also wishes for, she tells us at REHACARE.com.
Marcella Becker: On my last and first safari with my horse Veliciano, during the gallop. About what? Simply because of happiness.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?
Marcella Becker: I want to take a little journey through Europe with my son in a Bulli - just to experience big and small adventures with him. Until now I did not think that I was capable of going on this kind of adventure, but it is on the top of my "must do list".
Which person has influenced you most?
Marcella Becker: My son. Through him I learned to dance in the rain, rather than continually waiting for the sun.
You have the chance to become the German Federal Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?
Marcella Becker: I would open a coffee and restaurant chain for children with autism and with severe multiple disabilities.
Your life is made into a film: Who would represent you?
Marcella Becker: Definitely Heinz Erhardt! If I was an old man, I would be Heinz Erhardt. I would like to be ...
Marcella Becker: Pippi Longstocking.
Which questions would you like answered the most?
Marcella Becker: You cannot – not now – determine autism with a prenatal diagnosis. If this would be possible in the first weeks of pregnancy, how high would the abortion rate be? This is a question I often ask myself in the last time.
What I finally want to say...
Marcella Becker: Yes to a life without stereotypes and labels!
