Inclusive living in the quarter

Sufficiently adapted housing space belongs to human basic needs. But especially accessible apartements and also accessible surrounding are often in short supply. What is the current status quo of quarter development in Germany? Which projects for people with different disabilities are already planned and implemented? Multifaceted and self-determined? Living with disabilities and in old age

Whether they are young or old, have a disability or not – people want to decide for themselves how and where they want to live. Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities explicitly demands this for people with disabilities. Many senior citizen organizations also champion more accessibility and self-determined living.

Community development: "Q8 supports, connects and assists"

Whether it’s a block party or neighborhood initiatives, there is great solidarity among people even in this day and age. Yet to make their own "hood" livable and enjoyable for all people and/or support it, the hands of residents are often tied. The Q8 Project by the Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf (English: Protestant Foundation Alsterdorf) attempts to act as an intermediary and support citizens in their projects in several boroughs and quarters of Hamburg, Germany.

BliSS: A housing project "at eye level"

Currently, approximately 150,000 blind and 500,000 people with visual impairments are living in Germany. Yet there are still not enough fitting living accommodations available for them. The Wohnprojekt BliSS e.V. housing cooperative has scheduled a communal house right in the center of Hamburg, Germany, to address the special needs of visually impaired and blind people. The idea behind it is for blind and people with visual impairments to live a self-determined life and build cross-generational, friendly and neighborly relationships.
