Activism for a self-determined life

Inclusion is a human right. And following the spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the motto "Nothing about us without us" applies to its implementation. Therefore, people with different disabilities around the world are increasingly committed to an inclusive society and accessible participation. In which ways they become active and what moves them, you can find out in our Topic of the Month March: Activism for a self-determined life.

Their names are Rebecca, Constantin, Laura, Michel or Aleksander. They use their common sense and their reach in (social) media to raise awareness – of what it is like to live in a society when you use a wheelchair, are of short stature or have autism. And of what it is like to continuously encounter barriers and being restricted.

Media influencer, author, activist – those are just some of the hats that Raul Krauthausen wears. The man from Berlin is a sought-after and competent discussion partner, especially when talk turns to inclusion and accessibility. After all, these are the subject matters that shape his everyday life – on both a professional and personal level. Be seen and be heard – YouTubers with disabilities take center stage

Vlogs, pranks, challenges or social experiments: YouTube offers all of this and often all in just one account. Yet no matter the video format, there are many different types of YouTubers – including more and more people with disabilities. Generally, no channel can be without a video describing the vlogger’s own illness/disability and a FAQ session that answers audience questions. But the vloggers offer so much more than that.
