Unafraid and motivated to just tackle and do things – that is Nadine Kleine. What she was taught since childhood days, she still lives by today. What she nevertheless does not dare to do and why she would like to be Usain Bolt for a while, the medical student tells us on REHACARE.com.
Name: Nadine Kleine Age: 24 City: Aachen, Germany Occupation: Medical student Impairment: Friedreich's Ataxia (a rare neurological disorder that affects coordination and, among other things, makes walking impossible)
Nadine Kleine: I'm easily excited. There are many things that make me laugh that are probably not so funny when viewed objectively. My friends and family make me laugh.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?
Nadine Kleine: Actually, most of the time, I dare doing anything I want to do. Sometimes I would like to go swimming alone and I don't dare because I know that the ground in the pool is slippery and I can't walk well.
Which person has influenced you most? And why?
Nadine Kleine: My parents. My father taught me to just keep going and not complain: There is no "I can't". Which is why I became someone who just goes through the motions. I do what needs to be done.
You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?
Nadine Kleine: Building lifts and set up a hotline where people can complain if one doesn't work. And then Germany can finance people to come and carry the disabled people up the stairs.
What is especially near and dear to you?
Nadine Kleine: It is important to me that people understand that disabled people are not necessarily stupid.
I would like to be...
Nadine Kleine: ...Usain Bolt. But just for a while please. I would like to see what it is like to be able to run without any problems.
Which question would you like answered the most?
Nadine Kleine: At Düsseldorf Airport there are such poles or bollards in front of the entrance to the elevator. Why? How can you drive past them in a wheelchair and get to the elevator?
