Funke Medical GmbH is donating 5,000 euros to the support group of the Rotary Club in Dorsten to aid a South African children's home. In doing so, it fosters the valuable work of the institution, which has been in existence since 1989, in one of the largest townships in Cape Town.
Under the slogan "Donation instead of gifts" Funke Medical GmbH decided this year to forego Christmas presents for business partners and instead donate to a South African children's home.
South African townships are known for a population living in poverty. Children are particularly often affected by the consequences. The declared aim of the Baphumelele Children's Home in Cape Town is therefore to create a safe place for those children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or neglected due to the precarious living conditions and who live on the streets.
In the wake of the economic consequences of the Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the children's home with about 200 children is facing a difficult financial situation for various reasons. These include the sharp rise in food prices because of inflation and the declining or non-recurring donations due to the uncertain domestic economic situation.
In addition, due to the increasing economic hardship of the people in the townships, babies are regularly left on the doorstep of the children's home, so that the financial situation continues to worsen with the steadily increasing number of people to be cared for. However, the government grants for the children's home have not been increased so far. "We are very happy to be able to help with this donation in a meaningful, fast and direct way and to support the work of the Rotary Club Dorsten that has been taking care of poor children and young people in Cape Town with remarkable dedication for many years", says Patricia Funke, Managing Director of Funke Medical.
Entrepreneurial social commitment was one of the decisive criteria in this year's competition for the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes", in which Funke Medical was awarded as a finalist. Funke Medical thus belongs to a particularly committed corporate elite that does outstanding things for the economy and society. For many years, the company has been a reliable partner of humanitarian and ecological projects and is also the initiator of numerous charitable and voluntary activities. The donation for the South African children's home once again expresses the company's philosophy of social and sustainable responsibility. On the basis Funke Medical once again decided this year to forego Christmas presents for business partners and instead to help in a meaningful way.
