Nicole Kultau – That's how she rolls

What makes you laugh?

Nicole Kultau: It is often the small everyday moments that make me laugh.

What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?

Nicole Kultau: I would love to start a journey through Europe with my son on the Orient-Express and enjoy the flair and luxury of the past.

Which person has influenced you most? And why?

Nicole Kultau: This is my son Justin, whom I loved unconditionally from the first moment of his life. Probably most mothers say that about themselves. My son was born with severe multiple disability and nothing of what my son is capable of today is self-evident. He has an unbelievable charm and warmth of heart with which he conquers many people for himself. He is a true teacher of life, for whom I have grown far beyond my own limits. I am incredibly proud of him and how he masters his way.

You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?

Nicole Kultau: I would ensure inclusive equal opportunities in working life. This requires individual time models and innovative work concepts on the part of employers, the removal of official hurdles and incentives for employers from the political side. This applies to people with and after cancer, caring mothers and relatives or people with all kinds of disabilities, whether they are congenital or acquired in the course of a lifetime through an accident or illness.

What is especially near and dear to you?

Nicole Kultau: That my son is happy and healthy, but also me being attentive to my own needs. Because when I am doing well, I have the power and opportunity to make a difference as a blogger and patient representative for people with cancer.

Nicole Kultau: sole visitors to the Uffici Galleries with a friend of the heart.

To which question would you like an answer?

Nicole Kultau: Perhaps it is good not to have answers to urgent questions. Because maybe an answer would frighten me so much that it would break me and take away all hope?

Nicole Kultau: It is an art in itself to live life lightly in difficult circumstances.
