Preserving and implementing human rights of people with disabilities is near and dear to Ottmar Miles-Paul. He really wants that there is justice in our world. Therefore, the committed activist fights against the worsening of the German Federal Participation Law – online as well as offline. What kind of idea he definitely wants to realize some day, he tells us on REHACARE.com.

When did you last laugh heartily and what about?

Ottmar Miles-Paul: Fortunately, I’m laughing very often. Last time while listening to a cabaret show at WDR.

What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?

Ottmar Miles-Paul: I have always been wanting to give a weird speech without much sense and watch how the audience reacts. The consideration for the event was too big until now, but it will happen someday.

Which person has influenced you most?

Ottmar Miles-Paul: There were several people who fought for the rights of disadvantaged people, like Nelson Mandela.

You have the chance to become the German Federal Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?

Ottmar Miles-Paul: I have already been a State Commissioner for the Disabled in Rhineland-Palatinate for five years and I liked it. But I also know what such work demands from you, so that I do not target that position but have great respect for it. And if I would accept this duty, I would have made sure in advance that UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be implemented consequently.

Your life is made into a film: Who would represent you?

Ottmar Miles-Paul: Nobody would have to represent me! I would prefer to do it on my own – like in the German TV series "Lindenstraße". I have been watching it since the beginning every single week.

I would like to be ...

Ottmar Miles-Paul: at the party for the so called Federal Participation Law for disabled people which really deserves this name and opens the doors for living in our society.

Which questions would you like answered the most?

Ottmar Miles-Paul: How should we handle the fact that our society is only very slow in developing more tolerance and respecting human rights and we always have to experience new regresses?

What I finally want to say...

Ottmar Miles-Paul: There has been said a lot. So I’m quite satisfied with the things that have been said.
