Playfully accessible in rehabilitation and leisure time

Dear Sir or Madam,

Conquering virtual worlds, uncovering secrets or being the successful athlete you might not be in real life. Video games offer the opportunity to do so. They are an escape from stressful everyday life, stimulation for one's own creativity or offer the opportunity to get back into shape physically. In our current Topic of the Month we have looked at how accessible they are for people with disabilities and what so-called exergames can do, especially for elderly people.

Have a playful week,

Playfully accessible in rehabilitation and leisure time

Topic of the Month

Whether for the body or the mind – video games make you moveable and keep you fit. And virtually it doesn't really matter whether you cannot walk or whether you are a little more immobile due to age. That's why video games have meanwhile conquered both the rehabilitation industry and the leisure activities of people with disabilities. Find out how exergames put seniors in motion and how a quadriplegist plays current games in our Topic of the Month January: Playfully accessible in rehabilitation and leisure time.

Michael Mohr – That's how he rolls

Michael Mohr was one of the eight "vilmA" award 2017 winners that the VdK North Rhine-Westphalia annually chooses. The 40-year-old from Düren donated his prize money to his heart's desire. What this is, what he is grateful to his parents for and why he would like to see more independence from people with disabilities, he tells us on REHACARE.com.
