Self-guided museum visits for visually impaired people

Dear Sir or Madam,

"Please do not touch" - as a visitor to the City Museum in Trier you will not hear this sentence. Especially if you have a visual impairment. Why touching is absolutely allowed and what technology is behind it? We asked project manager Prof. Christopher Ledwig.

Have a self-determined week,

Anne Hofmann

Visually impaired and blind people can now enjoy stunning visits to the City Museum Trier ("Stadtmuseum Trier") thanks to audio tracks, tactile reproductions, and replicas. Together with students who participated in the "Cross Media" seminar as part of their studies in Intermedia Design ("Intermediales Design") at the University of Trier, Design Professor Christopher Ledwig developed a one-of-a-kind multimedia service in Germany – the so-called "blind kit" trolley.

How we roll

Laura Chrobok can tell you a thing or two about the gruelling bureaucracy and job search for people with disabilities. And she wrote a book about it. But her book is not just about her search for employment but also about the good things in life, such as travelling. Why she wants more honest employers and what city she has dreamed of but already visited, she tells us at REHACARE.com.
