Just daring to live happy and free against all reservations – that’s exactely the way Silke Naun-Bates chose. Her life nowadays as a successful author, partner and mother proves her right. Why she wishes for accessibility, although she does not really depend on it, and how she handles fear, she tells us on REHACARE.com.
Silke Naun-Bates: Yesterday. I was looking for my mobile phone. And I obviously forgot that I was using it to talk to somebody that moment. I often laugh about myself and I like to do it.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far?
Silke Naun-Bates: If I want to do something and realize that I'm afraid to do it, I will do it all the more. Fear is nothing to hold me back, it's more some kind of motivation.
Which person has influenced you most?
Silke Naun-Bates: There were a lot of people. Everybody was very precious to me at his or her time. Naming them all would take too long.
You have the chance to become the German Federal Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first?
Silke Naun-Bates: Making accessibility a reality. I am not really depending on it because I can move along with my hands. But I really enjoy it when places are wheelchair accessible. Especially in the context of work and getting a job it would be very helpful if companies would think about accessibility. So that this could no longer be a reason for a "no" and only the qualification and personality would be important for the decision whether you get the job or not. This would make many things much easier, I think.
Your life is made into a film: Who would represent you?
Silke Naun-Bates: Whoopi Goldberg. I like her sense of humor. She is able to fill her characters with humor and the necessary deepness.
I would like to be ...
Silke Naun-Bates: a space traveler.
Which questions would you like answered the most?
Silke Naun-Bates: Is there life after death? Are we really alone in this universe? When will we finally understand that there is enough for all people?
What I finally want to say...
Silke Naun-Bates: Thanks a lot for the interview request. With all my heart, I wish you and all your readers a happy time. Life often seems to be so complex, but in the end it is really simple.
