Going on new adventures with the whole family is fun for everybody. At least, if the necessary assistive devices meet the needs of their users. So does Joëlette Kid – the new all-terrain chair by Ferriol-Matrat. In an interview with REHACARE.com, Alison-Lore Bourget told us about the special features and how especially the children react to their new possibilities.
Mrs. Bourget, what should we know about your new product Joëlette Kid?
Alison-Lore Bourget: The Joëlette Kid is an all-terrain chair, designed for children with reduced mobility, up to 25 kilograms. Very comfortable and secure, it is very easy to handle and it requires only one guide – unlike our classic one-wheeled Joëlette. Joëlette Kid provides a comfortable seating and a support to practice hiking or running in all seasons.
Created by our R&D Centre, in partnership with an orthopaedic centre, it is also possible to integrate a seat-corset directly on the product, thanks to a universal interface.

The JOËLETTE KID is made in France, with light and durable materials. Its frame and its shock-absorber reduce vibration during your hike, offering a better experience for the child. Its compact design makes the folding and storage of the JOËLETTE KID easy and fast.
What additional options can be added?
Bourget: The Joëlette Kid is adjustable according to its use, thanks to many options:
For a very athletic adventure, it is possible to equip the JOËLETTE KID with a pair of front arms, to facilitate the obstacle clearance.
In case of rain or intense sun, the umbrella will protect from weather hazards,
The headrest is adjustable according to the size of the child,
A rear mudguard allows avoiding splashing,
It is easy to customize the JOËLETTE KID with the advertising supports.
To what extent does Joëlette Kid represent a consistent development of your previous product portfolio?
Bourget: The classic Joëlette is a worldwide unique product and it is very known in the disability and assistive devices community. The Joëlette Kid gives a solution to take young children out for a hike or a run with only one guide. It is easy to go everywhere and takes less than 3 minutes to assemble or disassemble the product. It is a very comfortable and secure product.
What feedback do you receive from Joëlette Kid users?
Bourget: The users of the Joëlette often share their experiences during their hikes or runs. We developed a product according to their needs and during the whole development of the product, we did a lot of tests with the Joëlette Kid in real conditions, with disabled children. We have excellent feedbacks. The children were happy during the hike and they appreciated it. The guides were surprised with the facility of handling the Joëlette Kid and its possibility to access difficult paths.
To what extent can Joëlette Kid contribute to a more self-determined life and more participation?
Bourget: The Joëlette Kid allows children to access difficult paths that are inaccessible with a classic wheelchair. It also develops team spirit and sharing between the guides and the child.
