Showcasing great performances in a fitting way
"Paralympics in prime time - that's historic, that's wonderful!" says a delighted Friedhelm Julius Beucher, President of the German Disabled Sports Federation (DBS). "It's a great milestone for the Paralympic movement in Germany. At the same time, it is not the public broadcasters' choice, but their duty."
German long jump legend Markus Rehm, whose competition will be broadcast live on September 4, also welcomes ARD's decision: "This is great news and puts a smile on my face. It's a great platform to showcase our achievements and make people even more interested in our sport."
ARD and ZDF report extensively
Throughout the Paralympics, from August 28 to September 8, ARD and ZDF will alternate daily reports from Paris. On ARD broadcast days, Michael Antwerpes and Stephanie Müller-Spirra will present live sport, summaries, news and inspiring life stories between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Exciting competitions and emotional moments
In addition to the athletics and swimming finals in the evening, the focus in Paris will also be on team sports. The national wheelchair basketball teams, the sitting volleyball team and the wheelchair rugby team will be competing for medals.
"We are looking forward to showing these games live on TV, in the livestream in the ARD Mediathek and on sportschau.de," says ARD program director Mirjam Bach. "We are also expanding our digital activities at the Paralympics."
Extensive coverage in all media
In addition to the TV program, ARD offers extensive coverage in the ARD Mediathek, on sportschau.de and on social media. The "Paralympics Update" in the media library and on sportschau.de provides information on the most important decisions made by the German athletes. ARD will be broadcasting live from the opening and closing ceremonies and selected competitions on regional FM and Dab+ radio stations.
The 2024 Paralympics in Paris promise to be an exciting and emotional sporting event. ARD will be there up close with its extensive coverage.
