CUREosity and partners launch pilot project for virtual reality therapy

Since February 1, 2024, the German health insurance company Techniker Krankenkasse has been reimbursing virtual reality therapy (VR therapy) with CUREO® in rehabilitation, making it the first health insurance company in Germany to make this modern therapy method available to its policyholders. The offer is initially aimed at patients of the Ambulanticum, which is the ideal partner for the project.

On February 1, 2024, CUREosity GmbH, the German health insurance company Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) and the Ambulanticum in Herdecke began what could be a pioneering collaboration. As part of this pilot project, the Ambulanticum is introducing modern virtual reality therapy as a new therapy component in its treatment concept. An outstanding feature of this project is the first reimbursement of CUREO® VR therapy for patients by a statutory health insurance provider in Germany.

Customized solutions for patients

The Ambulanticum offers interdisciplinary intensive therapy for severely affected patients with neurological diseases and specializes in late aftercare. TK sees itself as a pioneer for innovative healthcare solutions and attaches great importance to finding individual solutions for its policyholders. Barbara Steffens, head of TK's NRW regional office, emphasizes the importance of pilot projects such as this one in integrating innovative therapy methods into existing care structures.

Combining proven therapies with modern approaches

The Ambulanticum, founded by Dr. Bernd Krahl and his wife Marion Schrimpf, places a strong focus on modern therapy methods. The team in Herdecke combines proven forms of therapy with innovative approaches such as CUREO® VR therapy to offer patients a broad and effective range of treatments.

The cooperation between TK, the Ambulanticum and CUREosity is initially limited to one year. CUREosity will accompany the project and conduct a qualitative survey to investigate the motivation and feasibility of the project.
