New pediatric seating system supports changing postural needs

Sunrise Medical has launched the LECKEY BeMe™ Seating System, a modular pediatric seating solution designed to adapt to children's changing postural needs as they grow. The system is available in multiple sizes and support levels and is built around interchangeable components intended to provide long-term flexibility for children with mild to complex positioning requirements.

BeMe designed to grow with the child

Built on a platform with 90 percent shared components, the LECKEY BeMe™ Seating System allows backrests, seat bases, and accessories to be adjusted or exchanged as a child's needs change. According to Sunrise Medical, many of these adjustments can be made while the child remains seated.

The system also incorporates patented growable foam technology and 4-way stretch covers, providing up to 5 inches (12 cm) of growth without requiring inserts or additional hardware.

"Fit the chair to the child, not the child to the chair," said Ian Hendry, LECKEY Sales Director at Sunrise Medical. "BeMe's modular design supports accurate positioning today while giving families confidence that the system will continue to adapt as the child grows."

Three seating options for different support needs

The BeMe family includes three interchangeable seating options designed for different levels of postural support:

BeMe Basic – intended for children who can transfer independently but require tailored everyday positioning. Features a growable ramped seat cushion designed to support alignment.
BeMe Moderate – provides additional pelvic and trunk stability through a growable contoured cushion and adjustable lumbar support.
BeMe Advanced – designed for complex postural needs, featuring a multi-adjustable split seat base and a 3D backrest intended to accommodate asymmetry.

User perspective and system compatibility

Sunrise Medical highlighted the experience of Grace, an 18-year-old with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, who used the seating system for several weeks.

"Sometimes with my condition, I forget to breathe, especially when I'm hunched over," Grace said. "When I use BeMe, my chest is opened up, and breathing feels much easier."

The BeMe Seating System is compatible with the Multi-Height and Tilt Indoor Base (Hi-Lo), the ZIPPIE® IRIS rotation-in-space wheelchair, and the ZIPPIE® Q300 M Mini power wheelchair.
