REHACARE 2025: From sports to everyday aids – innovations for greater participation

Innovation is not just about high-tech – sometimes simple ideas are enough to enable participation. REHACARE 2025 also focused on sports equipment and digital aids that make everyday life easier and create new experiences. Two examples show how inclusion can be achieved in a playful and practical way.

In brief: Innovations for everyday life

Sports & participation: With AmiGo from Tech2Play, soccer becomes an inclusive experience for wheelchair users – from school to club.
Digital everyday aids: The Zeitkompass from INCLUSYS makes times and planning accessible via a symbol app on a smartwatch or smartphone.

Inclusive sports: getting active together with AmiGo

Sports bring people together – but many activities are hardly accessible to people in wheelchairs. This is exactly where AmiGo comes in: a piece of sports equipment that opens up new opportunities for wheelchair users to exercise and play. It was developed by Dutch industrial designer Michiel van der Boom.

With AmiGo, you can pick up, pass, or shoot soccer balls – directly from your wheelchair, without complicated transfers to special equipment. Whether at school, in clubs, or during leisure time, the system opens up completely new possibilities for children and adults.

So far, AmiGo is only available in the Netherlands and costs around €4,200 (plus tax). At REHACARE 2025, van der Boom presented his concept internationally for the first time in order to attract distributors and raise awareness of wheelchair sports across Europe.

Examples such as the AmiGo make it clear that innovation is not only found in complex technology, but also in enabling greater participation and shared experiences.

Digital support in everyday life: the INCLUSYS time compass

Making time accessible to all – that is the idea behind the INCLUSYS time compass. The application displays times, calendars, and daily schedules not in numbers, but in easy-to-understand symbols. Whether via voice output or vibration signal, users are reminded how many hours or nights remain until an appointment. This can be a valuable everyday aid, especially for people with cognitive impairments such as autism or epilepsy.

The Time Compass (German: Zeitkompass) is currently used as an app, but a dedicated smartwatch is already in the works – interested parties can sign up for a waiting list. The project is also funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The goal is to have the app listed as a recognized aid so that the costs can be covered by nursing care insurance in the future. This would make the solution more affordable for many affected people – and this is precisely where German influencer Sabrina Lorenz sees the strength of such developments:
