His family and friends, his work as a flight attendant and being able to live a self-determined life – there are many things that are important to Alex Böhmer. Why especially his left leg is close to his heart, what he wants to do as soon as the corona pandemic allows it and how he otherwise rolls, he tells us on REHACARE.com.
Name: Alex Böhmer Age: 22 City: Erftstadt, Germany Occupation: Flight attendant / blogger Impairment: My right leg was amputated above the knee due to my cancer.
What have you always been wanting to do and why have you never done this so far? Alex Böhmer: I have always wanted to fly in a hot air balloon and I have always wanted to go to New York. Both were planned, but unfortunately my cancer diagnosis came in the way. But as soon as the current situation allows it, I will try to experience both!
Which person has influenced you most? And why? Alex Böhmer: My mother, because she was always by my side – in good times and bad. My father was also by my side, but because of his work he could not be with me as often as my mother.
You have the chance to become the Commissioner for the Disabled. What would you do first? Alex Böhmer: Parking in disabled parking without a disability pass would cost a fine of 5,000 euros.
What is especially near and dear to you? Alex Böhmer: My left leg, because that should carry me through my life for many years to come. My family, my friends, my incredible community on Instagram, my freedom and the possibility to live self-determined.
I would like to be ... Alex Böhmer: ...(back) on board of my beloved plane... But as soon as my fitness, my employer and Corona allow it, I will fly.
Which question would you like to be answered the most? Alex Böhmer: Will I stay healthy?
What I still wanted to say... Alex Böhmer: You only live once – so enjoy every moment. Be happy, free and live this wonderful life loud and full of love.
