TravelScoot Standard, TravelScoot Deluxe

The TravelScoot is offered as a Standard (with Lead-Acid-battery) or Deluxe (with Lithium-battery) package.
These are both available in a Junior version for smaller people, generally anyone from approximately 4' 6" (140 cm) to 5' 3" (160 cm) in height and of regular build. Since the only difference is a slight shortening of the aluminum tubing, there is no appreciable weight reduction. The scooter frame is made from high-strength 7075 Aluminum (Aircraft Grade).

The TravelScoot Standard package weighs 47 lbs (21.3 kg) and comes equipped with a sealed lead-acid (SLA) battery, while the Deluxe weighs 35 lbs (16 kg) and features the lithium-ion battery. Please also visit

TravelScoot Shopper

With our Shopper model we have reduced the weight by an astounding 30%, to just over 26 lbs (12 kg).
With the seat and battery removed, it weighs just 17.5 lbs (8 kg). We made this possible by using smaller wheels 6" (150 mm) x 1.2" (30 mm) and a smaller, 100 watt hub motor. With a top speed of about 2.3 mph (3.7 kmh), it is suitable for crowded environments such as cruise ships, shopping centers, pedestrian zones, fairs, museums and exhibitions. For safety reasons, these types of facilities require top speed to be limited to walking pace. The Shopper is also well-suited for persons who either can’t, shouldn’t or do not wish to drive faster.

The maximum load is unchanged at 320 lbs (145 kg), owing to the virtually identical frame structure. Length and width are slightly less as a result of the smaller wheels. For this reason, the Shopper is intended for use on level ground and low thresholds. While climb performance is limited and very much load-dependent due to the lower-power motor, the Shopper can still carry a rider weighing 220 lbs (100 kg) up a 6% wheelchair ramp.

The Shopper comes standard-equipped with our new light-weight 160 Wh lithium-ion battery, but can utilize all our other battery options and accessories as well.

The Shopper is also available in Junior size, and comes with the same carrying bag as our regular TravelScoot.

TravelScoot Shopper Junior

We now offer a seat-plate adapter that lowers the seat and moves it forward, allowing mobility-impaired children and people of short stature to reach the foot rests and operate the hand controls with ease.
There is room for personal items underneath the seat. The seat-plate adapter can also be installed facing aft, providing a sturdy platform for carrying heavier items such as luggage. See also Auxiliary Battery Tray.

Even when fully assembled, the 26-pound TravelScoot Shopper Junior can be easily loaded and unloaded from your vehicle. If necessary, you can remove the seat and battery in seconds, leaving you with the frame weighing less than 16 pounds.

Since the customers of the TravelScoot Shopper Junior are by definition fairly light-weight, the smaller lithium-ion battery will still provide a range of around 10 to 12 miles per charge.

Hartmut Huber - The inventor of the TravelScoot

Hartmut Huber, mechanical engineer and amateur aircraft builder from Munich, Germany, seriously injured his legs in a hanglider crash in 1975. Medical staff were able to fix him up again, but walking and standing became increasingly difficult with age. In 2003, while living in the US, he warmed to the idea of acquiring a mobility scooter.

However, none the countless mobility scooters on the market met the basic requirement of being easy to load and unload in and out of his homebuilt airplane. He faced similar problems when dealing with portability in cars and public transport.

Without exception, all mobility scooters were too heavy and bulky. Frequently, people with disabilities already have difficulty lifting heavy objects; or, oftentimes the wife has to handle that task for her disabled husband, for example. Several mobility scooters that could be taken apart where introduced onto the market, but these weren’t any lighter. They were still too cumbersome and complicated for people with disabilities. An entirely new approach had to be taken.

A few years prior, light-weight aluminum scooters for children as well as adults became popular world-wide: This gave Hartmut Huber his inspiration. After about a year of development he introduced the World’s lightest and most compact electric mobility scooter and named it TravelScoot ™, and applied for a patent.

At less than half the weight and 30% more load capacity than competitors, the TravelScoot became an immediate sensation. Another significant weight reduction was achieved with the introduction of the lithium-ion battery. Now, the total weight is only about one third of that of comparable mobility scooters. Conveniently, reduced vehicle weight results in a marked increase in range. An added feature, more cosmetic in nature, is that the TravelScoot doesn’t look like a mobility aid, reducing the stigma associated with these vehicles.

The US patent was awarded in 2007. World-wide patents are pending.

Mean while, Hartmut Huber has sold the rights to TravelScoot in the USA, Australia and other countries, and has returned to his home in Bavaria. He is the sole distributor for TravelScoot in Europe since 2010.
