Sunrise Medical: Wheelchair Leg Rest

Sunrise Medical is a world leader in the development, design, manufacture and distribution of manual and powered wheelchairs. Due to rapid expansion and more demanding customers they were faced with three issues: warehouse capacity became full quickly, flexible spare-part deliveries were needed and lead times had to be reduced. Sunrise came to us to find an integrated manufacturing, assembly and supply chain solution.

Comfort meets functionality
The leg rest is an important part for every wheelchair in Sunrise’s inventory. There are three different models: standard, powered and comfort. Each of them is customisable for different sized footplates. What’s important for customers is that it should be easy to order from stock. That’s why we were needed to provide smaller and more flexible packaging solutions.

Chasing time to meet customer demands
Due to the rapid expansion Sunrise faced, their warehouse capacity became full quickly. At the same time, customers became more demanding and were asking for more flexible spare part deliveries and reduced lead times. We helped by optimising their design for mass production. CHC also developed individual packaging solutions for smaller sub-assemblies. The warehouse headaches were taken from Sunrise by managing stock from our Dutch warehouse.

Enraf-Nonius B.V. Solaug Treatment Head

The Solaug Treatment Head is an electrotherapy device used by physiotherapists to promote healing and reduce pain and swelling through the use of ultrasound waves.Creating the best product through trial and error
We developed the treatment head together with Enraf-Nonius and Van Berlo design agency. Feasibility studies played a large role in this project. The most challenging aspect was the strict product dimensions we had to work with. This resulted in a 6-month trial and error period to find the optimal minimum wall thickness with an adequate strength to survive the TPE over moulding process.

From design to manufacturing
We were involved in the product development process from the start and consequently were able to engineer it to Chinese manufacturing capabilities. This saved both time and resources for all parties involved.

ENRAF NONIUS: En-Motion Treadmill

En-motion is a specialized treadmill used for rehabilitation and physiotherapy purposes. With the concept in place, we created an aluminum frame and made it into a finished product.

Re-learning to walk en-motion
A treadmill that meets the needs and requirements of any movement specialist, En-Motion definitely doesn’t fall under “run-off-the-mill”. It’s a high-quality, stylish and safe necessity for any rehabilitation and physiotherapy professional. It’s a necessity made valuable by features such as auto speed, a low step-up, downhill mode and a number of test programs.

From engineering to manufacturing
Safety and ergonomics were at the forefront to this project. We added our extensive engineering experience to Van Berlo’s design work to develop a product ready to be manufactured in China. Most importantly, we helped manage IP on patented technology. Our management practices also reduced costs through just-in-time manufacturing. Everything from supply chain management, to stock keeping and in-house sub-assembly was taken over by our team.
