"Bertelsmanns diversity is reflected not only in its businesses, but in employees as well. The company lives from this diversity and the variety of perspectives and ideas that comes with it. Thats why including people with disabilities into work life is a matter of course." Immanuel Hermreck, Chief Human Resources Officer of Bertelsmann
The exchange among employees with disabilities, their representatives and company management is a prerequisite for a functioning partnership.
Bertelsmann is committed to offering all employees on all levels the opportunity to pursue a working life. Emphasizing the importance of inclusion, the employment of people with disabilities is seen as a natural obligation for the company.
In March 2015, Bertelsmann adopted a Group inclusive policy agreement granting rights and privileges to people with disabilities beyond the legal requirements in Germany. These include among others:
• Special conditions for individual workplace and working time organizations; • Particular consideration in further education / training opportunities; • Active recruitment of people with disabilities; • Additional support to employees with physical disabilities over 50 years of age; • Support for reintegration into working life; • Two additional days of leave; • Equal compensation regulations.
Immanuel Hermreck, CHRO of Bertelsmann, confirms: “We are creating new opportunities to promote people regardless of their disabilities. For us, it doesnt matter what a person cannot do, but what they can do well.”
The inclusion agreements of Gruner + Jahr and Mediengruppe RTL are based on the aforementioned inclusion agreement, and have been adapted to the respective requirements and specifics of the companies.
The Group Representative of people with disabilities is also responsible for a Group-wide website, Handicap TV, developed to promote awareness regarding the active inclusion and achievements of all employees regardless of disabilities. In addition to presenting best practices, the site provides useful information for people with and without disabilities.
