Hainich National Park

Embedded in a rich cultural landscape, the Hainich National Park has far more to offer than just jungle-type forest and rare animal species. Located at the heart of Germany, Hainich is enclosed by cultural surroundings offering undiluted history - unusual for a National Park - with towns like Bad Langensalza, Eisenach or Mühlhausen, and these surroundings have also left their mark in Hainich itself. Here, visitors can experience what is meant by leaving nature alone. Fascinating forest landscapes in one of the most primeval of German forests, a piece of unspoilt wilderness, with rare species like wild cats, seven types of woodpecker and numerous beetles and mushrooms.

A great highlight is the Treetop Trail, from which you can see the primeval forest from a very different perspective. Visitors can enjoy cycle and hiking routes, adventure trails, exhibitions and a rich cultural environment at any time of the year.

Programmes for school classes and kindergartens:
Nature walks, adventure classes for different age groups and on different topics

Various events throughout the year on the topics:
rangers, forest, animals, children, plants, birds, research day, fairytales, music, photography, carriage ride, mushrooms

Brunstal adventure trail
Nature for everyone, 3 kilometres in length, total of nine stations where visitors can touch, hear or read lots of fascinating things about animals and plants in Hainich.

"Feensteig" (Fairy Hill) fairytale nature trail
Walkers can encounter fairytales and Nature in an unusual way; total of 14 stations; fairytale texts are an additional key to finding the secret entrances to Feensteig.

"Silberborn" adventure trail

Belvedere Palace Weimar

Duke Ernst August had a Baroque summer residence built to the south of Weimar between 1724 and 1748. Since 1923, this Belvedere Palace has housed a museum of the arts and crafts of the 18th century. One focus of the items displayed is porcelain and glass used at the Duke's court. Also on show are east Asian porcelain and faience ware, furniture dating from the 18th century and early porcelain from the Meissen manufactory. An exhibition in the West Pavilion is devoted to the architecture and garden design of the era and a collection of weapons dating from the 18th century records the history of court hunting.

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Belvedere Palace is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled "Classic Weimar", which, as unique testimony to the cultural epoch of Weimar Classic, reflects the outstanding role of Weimar as an intellectual centre in the late 18th and early 19th century
