Ever since our establishment, we have been reported by famous foreign media like TIMES in the U.S.A., BBC in the U.K., Tech Asia and Popular Science and have received an offer of joint research with overseas universities and research institutes.
In addition to English and Korean language, we are developing braille translation software in different languages and after being reported by Mashable Asia, we attracted global attention once again through SNS. Also, we won the Excellence Prize at the KIC hosted event in Alibaba, China in June 2016. We were selected as one of the appreciable startups in 2017 by Forbes and won the SLUSH TOKYO 2017 in Tokyo, Japan.
After receiving the Golden Lion Award (Gold Prize) in the Cannes International Advertising Industry Innovation and Product Design 2 category in 2016, we have been awarded the prize again this year in 2018, which makes us the first Korean company to have received the award twice.
DOT Co., Ltd. is one of the world's leading social impact companies which manufactures ingenious smart-devices with incredible technologies for visually impaired. DOT Co., Ltd was established in April 2015 to minimize the information gap of the blind all over the world. And, we currently have 72 patents regarding technologies and design. Currently, we are mass-producing braille smartwatches which are connected with smartphones via Bluetooth. Now, we are ready for 10 different languages including the English version and Korean version braille translation software. We are innovating the auxiliary equipment market for the disabled by developing lower-priced and lighter products than the existing ones and facilitating high-efficiency operation, based on the actuator (HW) and braille translation program (SW) that we developed autonomously.
We were successful in mass-producing our core technology: the electromagnetic actuator which can be seen in the Dot Watch. Our feat was drastically minimizing the size and the cost of the current market standard – the piezo-electric cell, which is still used today in many electronic braille devices. Dot cell is the smallest, most cost-efficient, and the most mobile technology for electronic braille display. The Dot cell is also the first mass producible, scalable, and affordable actuator technology. It offers an excellent performance at 1/10 of the price and 1/20 of the size, compared with the existing braille cell technologies.
