The special importance of arms for independent living is the original idea behind the creation of Kinova. With its robotic arm Jaco, the Canadian company has already helped many people worldwide to achieve greater mobility and quality of life. This arm develops its special benefits when users (almost) no longer have their own arm and hand functions. In many cases, such as after a stroke or in the case of cerebral palsy, there is still sufficient residual functionality in the arms and hands that can be used for everyday activities with the appropriate support. For these people, the Gowing² and Dowing² systems from Dutch manufacturer Focal Meditech are perfectly suited.
The operating principle of the two dynamic arm support systems is essentially the same. The user places their arm in a shell individually adapted to their size, which is fixed in a multi-axis device. In this way, the arm is balanced and can be used as usual with the available residual strength for eating, writing or operating the keyboard of a computer. While the Dowing² works purely mechanically, the Gowing² is equipped with a motor that additionally supports the movements. Both systems are optimally individually adjusted and can also be readjusted during use, for example if the strength in the arm decreases during eating.
Kinova is now selling and supporting the Gowing² and Dowing² exclusively in Germany. Thanks to special arm shells, the two new products are also ideally suited for children and enable them to optimally promote residual strength, perfect age-appropriate development and a good start to an independent life.
